Understanding the Terminology
Coaches work with intermediate students who have learned survival skills and are working on maneuvering skill sets, usually students with about ten jumps or more. Instructors work with beginner students and often first jump students through the AFF, Static Line, or Instructor Assisted Deployment method, usually making several jumps to progress them towards a license. Tandem Instructors take people for their first skydive, and some work with the beginning skill sets that progress towards a license. Examiners run certification courses to help skydivers become Coaches or Instructors, depending on their particular rating. An Examiner Director runs certification courses to help instrutors become examiners. All types of instructors and examiners can also coach intermediate students.
